The Kris Amerikos Story

Hello, my name is Kris and here is the story of me. 

I was born into a typical, middle-class, American military family stationed in Germany in 1986. We moved back to the United States the next year and lived the normal life of any suburban family.

At the age of 17, I went to university and earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and after that my Master's degree in International relations at the age of 22. I worked in those fields for a little bit, but very soon figured out that it wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I ended up in the English as a Second Language sphere instead. And I am very happy I did. 

I have lived in a lot of places in my life: Germany, Italy, and Russia, but also the United States, in Ohio, Hawaii, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Florida and Virginia. Geography, language, and culture has always piqued my interests. 

At the age of 23 I started my first language teaching business (Kolumb Language Center), and after that came many others. 

Starting my own business in a different country, at the age of 23, without speaking the language, having business experience or having a lot of money to invest, was probably one of the most challenging experiences of my life. All I had was my motivation, drive, and confidence, but apparently that was enough, and my first business succeeded. It still functions to this day. To be honest with you, it wasn't easy, but as I gained more experience, it became much easier. After years of running my own businesses, hard work, constant learning, and determination have become an immensely important part of my life philosophy. 

In my free time I like to travel, spend time with friends and family, go kayaking, play soccer, and read books. I work when I want, which means I work a lot. And one of the things I love doing more than anything else is teaching English. It’s my passion. I absolutely love it! 

My Teaching Story

When I got my degree in Psychology I started working with children with special needs. It was a very challenging job, but it taught me a lot about human behavior. After some time, I knew that it wasn't something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So I took my career in a different direction.

At that time I met some students from Russia who were living and working in the United States. We became friends and I ended up going to Russia for 3 months. I really liked it there and I wanted to find a way to stay longer. I decided to get a certificate in teaching English as a second language and got a job as an English teacher in Russia. I started teaching in 2009.

I taught English for a year and then I noticed that there were a lot of things that could be improved. I wanted to improve the teaching method being used and the general business operations of the teaching business I was working in.

So I collected all the courage (and money) that I had, which wasn't much, and I started my own teaching business in Russia. I didn't know the language or the culture. I didn't know the first thing about business and I had almost no money to invest. I won't lie, the first few years were very difficult, but out of those struggles came some great results.

I took note of what was working for my business and for my students and what wasn't. I started putting it all together and implementing new technology, methods, and techniques to make my business better and to get better results for my students.

After some time, I noticed something huge - the students who I had taught using my new teaching method were getting great results! I was so happy to see that some of them were entering international universities, some of them were getting promoted, some of them immigrated to the U.S. or U.K. and got great jobs. I was so happy about that.

Then the time came when the demand for my services had grown so much that I had to hire more teachers to work in my teaching business. I had to train them in the new method that I was using and make sure that their students got the same great results. That gave me even deeper insight into the English as a Second Language sphere.

At that point I noticed, that some students were still struggling. Using my experience as a teacher and teacher trainer, plus my background in psychology, I worked on improving my method once again. I wanted to find a way to get any and every student the same great results. 

Year after year the results got better and better. I was able to teach my method to other teachers. They were using it and students were getting amazing results. I was happy. But then I realized something else. I was only able to reach a small number of students in a small geographic location. I wanted to share my teaching strategies with the world and get students everywhere great results.

That's when I started another teaching business. It was completely online and I was able to teach an even bigger group of students, whose native languages were all different. That gave me a much larger perspective, a global perspective, and allowed me to really perfect what I was doing as a teacher, teacher training, and teaching business owner. Now my teaching strategies have brought great results to students in more than 45 countries, who speak all kinds of languages, and have all kinds of language goals. It absolutely works!

Years have passed and this method still gets results for students all over the world. I licensed my method in 2017, so that I could issue official certificates, which is yet another large accomplishment in my book. 

After about 10 years of teaching, I have taught over 20,000 hours of lessons. I have trained thousands of teachers. And I have 3 teaching businesses that implement the knowledge I have accumulated throughout my journey as a teacher.

The biggest lesson that I've learned from this journey is to never stop learning. All of us are students and will be students our entire life. It is important to keep going forward and keep working on yourself.

My Business Story

I started my first language teaching business when I was 23. It was a language center in Russia. Over the years I have perfected my teaching method and licensed it. The experience of running an offline language center was tremendous. I learned major business principles and took lessons from my mistakes. The second, third, and fourth time around, I did it better and faster.

My second business was born out of the need to perfecting my teaching method and test it on a variety of students from all over the world (KrisAmerikos.com). Unlike the first language center, it was an online teaching website and over the years I have taught students from over 45 different countries. I have been able to reach the same great results for my online students (if not better) and that has allowed me to perfect my method even more and help students get results even faster. 

I have also been a teacher trainer ever since I had to hire my first teacher for my language center. Over the years, more and more teachers have been asking me to have trainings with them and help them become a better teacher. I started to understand that what teachers really wanted and needed was to gain independence and make more money. It made me review the business principles that had allowed me to start my businesses as a teacher and what I did that worked. I thought about what had taken me from working for somebody else to the point where I didn't have to work, but still chose to because I loved teaching so much. In this program teachers get their first clients within weeks of joining. Many of them have told me that it has completely changed their lives and helped them do what they love without working 80 hours a week to make ends meet. I am constantly working on perfecting this program and my goal is to help as many teachers as possible take their life and career to the next level, teach because they love it and not because they have to survive, and bring value and results to their students and happiness and financial independence to their families.

My Philosophy

I believe that hard work, motivation, determination and constant learning are the key ingredients to success. You have to constantly work on perfecting yourself if you want to get results in anything. 

My students come to me or my businesses and often say: I want to learn English in 1 month. And I can see from the very first conversation who will succeed and who won't. It is all in the ability of working on yourself, challenging yourself, and going outside of your comfort zone. So with those students who are not ready to do that, I have to work more on their personal life than on their English. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. 

And the same with teachers. My approach has proven to be successful and I have helped many teachers become successful. It all starts with a person wanting to make a change in their life. 

Of course, that is not all, and there is a lot to my method, and my philosophy in general, that I teach in my programs, but that is what I always start with and that is what time after time has proven to be the key point of change, whether it is your level of English, or your income, or results as a teacher.
